Each year members of Oakville Army Cadets are recognized for their outstanding achievements by the following awards and medals, presented at our Annual Ceremonial Review…

Major Barnes, CD Most Outstanding Green Star Cadet Award

This trophy is presented to the Green Star Cadet that excels in attendance, community service participation, dress, drill, deportment and performs exceptionally well at outdoor adventure skills.

Captain Hosek, CD Most Improved Marksman Award

This trophy is presented to the Cadet who has been actively participating in the 1188 Lorne Scots RCACC Air Rifle Marksmanship program, and has shown the most improvement in air rifle marksmanship skills.

Cadet Chief Warrant Officer R. Van Gemert Memorial Award Most Outstanding Red Star Cadet

This trophy is presented to the Red Star Cadet that excels in attendance, community service participation, dress, drill, deportment and performs exceptionally well at outdoor adventure skills.

 Most Outstanding Junior Marksman Award 

This trophy is presented to the Junior Cadet who has been actively participating in the 1188 Lorne Scots RCACC Air Rifle Marksmanship program, with both exceptional marksmanship and sportsmanship abilities.

Most Improved Bandsman Award

This trophy is presented to the Cadet who is an active member of the 1188 Lorne Scots RCACC Brass and Reed Marching Band and has shown the most improvement in their musical skills.

Major Dowling, CD Cup – Most Outstanding Senior Marksman

This trophy is presented to the Senior Cadet who is an active member of the 1188 Lorne Scots RCACC Air Rifle Marksmanship Team, who has consistently displayed exceptional marksmanship and sportsmanship skills, as well as outstanding leadership abilities. 

Cadet Lieutenant Darrell Smith Award – Most Outstanding Silver Star Cadet

This trophy is presented to the Silver Star Cadet that excels in attendance, community service participation, dress, drill, deportment, fitness, leadership and performs exceptionally well at outdoor adventure skills. 

Most Outstanding Bandsman Award

This trophy is presented to the Cadet who is an active member of the 1188 Lorne Scots RCACC Brass and Reed Marching Band and has consistently shown excellent musical and leadership skills.     

Cadet Chief Warrant Officer R. Van Gemert Memorial Award – Most Outstanding Dress and Deportment

This trophy is presented to the Cadet that has consistently displayed exceptional dress, deportment, and has a high level of attendance at cadet activities. 

Oakville Army Cadets ‘Platoon of the year’ Award

This trophy is presented to the Platoon that accumulated the most points on a monthly basis throughout the cadet year including attendance, drill, dress, deportment, and community service participation. 

Colonel Geoff Parker, CD ‘Esprit de Corps’ Memorial Cup      

This trophy was first presented in 2010. It is awarded to the Cadet that has displayed exceptional ‘Esprit de Corps’ throughout the current cadet year. This award is also celebrating the life and career of former 1188 Lorne Scots Army Cadet Corps – Oakville, Cadet Company Sergeant Major (1986) Colonel Geoff  Parker, CD who was the 145th Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan on 18 May 2010.

Ray Hume Award Most Outstanding Cadet

This trophy is presented to the Cadet that has excelled throughout the current cadet year in all aspects of the Army Cadet program including: attendance, drill, dress, deportment, fitness, leadership, participation in community service, and is exceptional at outdoor adventure training.

 Army Cadet League Long Service Medal

This medal is presented to an Army Cadet that has successfully completed four years of honourable service within the Canadian cadet program. Single bars are awarded for each additional year.  

Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence

This medal is presented to a cadet who, over many years, has actively participated in community service activities and works exceptionally well with fellow cadets, volunteers and unit officers. This cadet must also consistently promote esprit de corps, comradeship, goodwill, and enhance the image of cadets in their local community.

Lord Strathcona Medal

The Lord Strathcona Medal is the highest award which can be bestowed upon a Canadian cadet in recognition of exemplary performance in both physical fitness, and the army cadet training program. It is a rare privilege to receive this medal.
